Show Info!

We are ready to announce 3 performances of KINesphere!

When: Thursday, December 30 at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm

Where: The Lake Observation Trail of the Anne Kolb Nature Center (this trail is ADA accessible).

How to get tickets: The Nature Center is free and open to the public! So is our show! However, we are asking people RSVP via Eventbrite, so we know that you can get a good view. Additionally, if you choose a Donation Ticket on Eventbrite, the proceeds will be split between the dancers and the Love the Everglades Movement. We are really excited to be supporting this Indigenous-led work to preserve the health of our South Florida ecosystem.

Funding for the project is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommend by the Broward Cultural Division.

Ann Kolb Nature Center is the location of KINesphere!

We are beyond excited to be using the beautiful, and accessible (free and ADA compliant) Anne Kolb Nature Center Lake Observation Trail for our performance. Show info is coming Tuesday!

These are some "on location" photos from today, working out the endings of some of the choreography.

Yasmin in Rehearsal

Yas is exploring water and fluidity- and all that goes along with it. Sometimes it is a soft rain. Sometimes it's a raging sea. She is incorporating these movement qualities with ideas of pain and suffering, as an embodied Gaia, or Mother Earth.

Stay tuned for show details!

Movement Explorations

Now that we are in the thick of rehearsals, most of my movement time is spent specifically exploring phrases I can add to the solos we are creating. Here are two from this week.

Movement Explorations

More bamboo movement. I loved hearing the creaking of the bamboo in the wind and the hollow thunk that the stalks make as they come into contact with each other.

That day in the arboretum was very breezy. That is what inspired this phrase

And a bit of noodling using the leaves as accompaniment and playing with lines v. curves.

Fungi!

I have told several people that since moving to Florida, I haven't seen mushrooms. There are lichens on trees, but unlike the northeast, where mushrooms just pop up in yards, I don't see fungi.

Until today! Ricky Morriseau and I went to the Lieberman Botanical Garden to rehearse this morning, a beautiful fall day in Florida (it was only 65 degrees! I wore a scarf!). We found these beautiful fungi growing throughout the park.

The camera didn't pick it up well, but this fungi, a Flowerpot Parasol, is actually a beautiful light yellow. While beautiful, it is poisonous.

This one looks like a model for a cartoon mushroom. As Ricky said, "It's a work of art itself!", and it is. The edges, the spots, the shape. This Green-spored Parasol is beautiful. Fun side note- it is also "the most poisonous mushroom in North America", according to the Seek app!

More Flowerpot Parasols.

And this little gilled mushroom was so tiny I couldn't get a good read with the app. But it was the first one I found in the park, and it just made my day.

Sunrise Beach

Are you surprised that there are very few images and experiences from the beach? When I think nature in South Florida, I must admit, the beach is the first thing that comes to mind. So I have purposefully tried to explore and highlight the other types of nature in our space.

But, I do love the beach!

I love the small details you can see in shells and sand.

I was at the beach not long after sunrise, one of my favorite times to be there.
